All my life, I thought I had few roots in America. As it turns out, I have some of the deepest roots one can have. These roots stem from my father's mother, Evelyn Maude Post. The names I have turned up are the founding fathers and mothers of New York, from Manhattan to Sleepy Hollow and up to New Paltz, New York. Who were these people and why did they come to America? They were for the most part Huguenots, who fled from Europe for their lives and with the hope to celebrate their religious freedom. One family, Requa, fled from France, running for their lives as the Catholic church did not want people to read the Bible or to embrace religious freedom or truth. Their solution was to exterminate the Bible reading and Calvinists of their day. For now. I will simply list some of the names. These families were some of the first of the Dutch West Indies company that sent settlers to America, they established the Dutch Reformed Churches here in America. They established townships and communities and fought in all our nations wars. This list of names is almost a who's who of early New York. Instead of narrowing my heritage it has grown to include a great deal of relatives. The links are currently broken and must be reconstructed. I will have this updated soon. Ancestors via my grandmother Evelyn Maude Post Clearwater (Klaarwater) Davenport De La Montagne De Plancken (Blanck) Martlings Merritt Montfoort (Van Montfoort) Nichols Ousterhoudt Sie (SEE) Stevenson Van Steenbergen Verbeau Vernoy
